MARNI for H&M Spring 2012

I wanted to create a true Marni wardrobe by revisiting all our favorite pieces in signature fabrics and prints. As always, I love juxtaposing prints and colours, mixing modern tribal with Bauhaus graphic adding sporty utilitarian elements.

MUSIC friends : Alezandro

MusicPlaylistView Profile

Here something for the week-end..
My dearest friend Alezandro, like Karl likes to call him (yes THAT Karl!), made a special Playlist for ESOTIC jewellery.
We've known each other for so many years, actually since I was 18years old, and he is such a special friend that he was my wedding witness, and certainly the most stylish of all my mates ( sorry you all..).
Not only he knows all about fashion and has a great taste in music, but makes great t-shirt too.

Music and Fashion are? Indispensable and my being.
Home is ? Milan
Favourite outfit ? Leather, casmire black hoodies, black tee, gray jeans, Goyard boots and at last but not least, my rocks: brown, white and yellow stones; pink, yellow and grey gold.
What do you like most? to be modern-retro
Sountrack of your day? Edith Piaf
Whats your treasure? health, my love, my few friends...all more precious then diamonds

Lady Tribal

Lady-Tribal , Josephine Necklace modelled by a friend

Where it all started...

Taking inspiration from the East (the pearls, the silk and feathers )
meets Africa (the tribal symbols and the beads both from black wood and bones*)
meets West ( the crystals and the '20s-'30s designes of the European scene).
Combine they show an innovative, modern, global multiethnic ladylike vibe.

For the style of this collection, the first I created, I've been inspired mainly by the wonderful Josephine Baker and her movies.
Also living in London it is an amazing experience, I can just seat anywhere and watch the world pass by with all his different cultures, styles, religions and race. An interesting melting pot....

Lady-Tribal jewellery collection was in archive but as some customers requested,
it is now on limited re-production.

Kashigata

A while ago I discovered these stunning vintage Japanese wooden sweet molds; I'm at the moment in search for the perfect one to display in my kitchen...and who knows, maybe to learn how to make rakugan, but like macaroons, they seem too beautiful to be eaten...maybe I should offer them to my Butsudan...

My favourite kashigata is the one with the lotus flower.

Often made of sakura (cherry wood) and seasoned for about 3 years before carving, kashigata were used to make dried confectionery made of rice flour and sugar called rakugan. Earliest records show that this practice dates back to the mid-17th century. These confections were used as offerings and snacks for celebratory occasions and even unfortunate events. For example when a person died, it was expensive to give flowers or fresh food so, people made these sweets in the form of flowers, fish etc. These items were then placed on the "butsudan" (family shrine found in the house) for the dead person.
Kashigata were also used in the making of wagashi (nama-gashi or freshly made cake and hi-gashi or dried confectionery) for tea ceremonies.

Common kashigata motifs in the Edo era - chrysanthemums, plum blossoms
Meiji Era - spread of western technology - balloons, planes

World War II - national pride heightened - cherry blossoms, battleships - used as gifts for departing troops, ceremonies and commemorative occasions.

Uchida's home- Japan

I couldn't resist to upload and post all these fantastic pics of Uchida's family home in Japan taken by The Selby. So simple but studied in all the details.
It has a vibe between shabby chic English home and the white elegance of danish houses, but it is in Japan...
Stunning. Full of character. Absolutely in love.
Just wondering how beautiful must be Mr Uchida "J'Antiques Tokyo" antiques shop....
